Globalization offers opportunities and threats to China, Asia's new economic powerhouse in the new millennium. China's entry into the WTO will speed up social transformation and modernization in China. But China will have less time to adjust to new situations and China faces greater challenges in solving social problems such as unemployment and widening income gaps.
Because globalization, and the ascent of China as the new economic powerhouse, offers both opportunities and threats to employment and organizations, we anticipate that organizations in Asia and elsewhere will encounter many emerging issues in organizational behavior in the coming years. Some of these emerging issues are highlighted in this book.
Globalization affects world markets, national economies, and organizations. And globalization also affects the individual. "It is wrong to think of globalization as just concerning the big systems, like the world financial order. Globalization isn't only about what is 'out there', remote and far away from the individual. It is an 'in here' phenomenon too, influencing intimate and personal aspects of our lives.
