It is widely recognised that Hospitality and Tourism is a vastly important and fast-growing industry. There is a need not only for more knowledge on the management of this industry, but also the tools to advance the knowledge.
A dearth of case literature in the area of Hospitality and Tourism Management, especially of Singapore's organisations, created a gap in knowledge that needs to be filled. This book seeks to fill this gap. It aims to provide information using a case-study approach to bring reality to the picture. This would hopefully lead to more analytical discussions, both in depth and breadth, as well as generate greater interest and further advance knowledge in this discipline.
As a tool to develop analytical skills in a real-world setting and to cultivate greater interest in this important field, this book is based on a broad range of cases. Selection of the cases is based not just on expertise and interests of the writers, but, more importantly, on the need for cases representing different industries and functional specialisations within this discipline.
The diversity of industries covered, and the use of both single and multi-disciplinary approaches, would help to facilitate in-depth and broad-cased discussions. The cases vary in length too, to allow for different modes of class discussion.
This book focuses on Singapore organisations and is arguably a pioneer in this respect.
To facilitate the learning process, questions pertaining to each case are provided at the end of the case. These questions are intended to further stimulate analysis of the cases. Ample opportunities are provided for instructors to devise their own questions. Suggested solutions to these questions will be provided in due course.
Overall, the book encompasses a broad scope separately while individual cases provide in-depth treatment. Such coverage allows the book to be utilised, in whole or in part, for the following Hospitality and Tourism Management subjects, although the list may not be exhaustive:
- Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Management
- Service Quality Management in Hospitality and Tourism Management
- Tourism Management Studies
- Tourism Impact Studies
- Food and Beverage Management
- Hospitality and Destination Marketing
- Lodging Management
- Human Resource Management in relation to Hospitality and Tourism Management
- International Business in relation to Hospitality and Tourism Management
