| Abstract |
This is the first of a two-case series (301-154-1 and 301-155-1). This series describes the creation of a dot.com start-up in Singapore and its penetration into the Chinese market. The company, MyWeb Inc.com started as a web designer, but moved quickly into set-top boxes, for Internet access using TVs, as well as the design of a portal with localised content for China. At the end of the case, they realised that their original business model was not viable and they evaluate the different options they have to create a profitable business model. This series of cases can be used to discuss strategies for China in a high-tech context. It can also be used in a more general class on rapid internationalisation in a high-tech environment. This case contains colour exhibits. *Abstracts reprinted with the permission of INSEAD* |
