| Abstract | NTT Docomo has enjoyed substantial success since its founding in 1992 and after its public listing in 1998. The case sets out the context under which NTT Docomo grew to become the predominant mobile phone company and wireless internet service provider in Japan. Its phenomenal success in Japan with the i.mode internet service accords it the leverage to expand into the European market. At the same time, competition on the domestic and international front and the threat of competing technologies and substitutes are evident. |
