Case Title Managing a Battle Re-Enactment and Living History Event
Case Author(s) Joan C. Henderson
University Nanyang Technological University
Abstract The case summarises preparations for a battle re-enactment and living history event organised by a local authority. It describes key stages in the decision making process and the principal participants, as well as giving a brief account of the operation of the event over a weekend in 1996. Issues raised include those of contributory factors to successful event management, the role and responsibilities of local authorities in the provision of visitor attractions and the relationship between history, heritage and tourism. It affords students on undergraduate travel, tourism and leisure courses an insight into the range and variety of tourist attractions, opportunities and constraints affecting public sector activity and approaches to presenting the past - forming the basis for seminar discussions and related project work. *Abstract reprinted with the permission of the European Case Clearing House*
