| Abstract |
Star Minerals is a 100% export oriented joint venture with a foreign
partner who holds a minority interest. However, Star is contractually committed
to selling all its production exclusively through the joint venture partner.
The export prices are denominated in foreign currency, while costs are incurred
in rupee terms. The company had taken two loans denominated in two different
foreign currencies. The company is worried about its exchange rate exposures.
The case gives a brief on the structure and operations of the company as
well as the scheduled foreign currency debt service payments. |
