Recon Ltd is facing a threat of being marginalized in the fast growing
pharmaceutical sector. In the past few years, in anticipation of product
patenting under TRIPS, the company had made heavy investments in R&D.
However, it incurred a loss last year. The finance manager suspects that
the financing of capital investments in the past few years might have contributed
to this financial decline. The case provides the financial statements of
