Abstract:

Fukuoka School for Special Children was founded by Mussarat Taimoor, with the help of a Japanese philanthropist. Mussarat's objective was to provide an enabling environment to special children, irrespective of their financial capabilities. The inconsistent sources of funding, mostly through zakat and one time grants, posed serious problems of financial sustainability for this organization.

The case aims to raise awareness about the prevalence of mental retardation, and the need for institutions for special children. Through raising awareness, the organization hoped to acquire more sustainable sources of funding. Also, by generating discussion on fundraising and sustainability, the case can help to provide a better understanding of NGO management and marketing for the not-for-profit sector.
