Abstract:

In January 2002, Umar, Coordinator Community Schools was told by a member of the school Village Education Committee that he was going to close the PRSP school in view of the rude behaviour of the owner of the school building. Umar felt that closing the school was not the only option. He estimated that shifting the school to another location would take almost one month and the annual examinations were only three months away. The community would have to recruit a new teacher and spend on teacher training, but the students might refuse to accept any other teacher. The community would also have to generate Rs. 60,000 to shift the school. Moreover, the present landlord had warned that shifting the school without his permission would lead to a disastrous situation. Umar wondered what he should do under the circumstances.
