Abstract:

The Case B, a sequel to Case A on Tube Investments of India Ltd. (TI), depicts how the newly appointed president in 1998 staged a remarkable turnaround of all the three divisions by 2000. Describing the division specific competition, the case highlights on the various business strategies that were designed and implemented for improving domestic market share, exports and profitability. Despite good performance, the new president was worried about sustaining the future growth and 8 to 10 percent return to shareholders because it operated in a highly competitive market with a price sensitive product. The task was made formidable due to lack of investors' support to raise finance from the capital markets to implement key projects.
